What Sathya Sai Baba talks on health

Sathya Sai Baba emphasized a holistic approach to health, integrating physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. His teachings highlight several key principles:

1. Mental Purity and Cheerfulness:

He taught that mental health is foundational to physical health. As he stated, “The secret of perfect health lies in keeping the mind always cheerful—never worried, never hurried, never borne down by fear or anxiety.” Stress, anger, and negative emotions are seen as major causes of illness.

2. Diet and Moderation:

Sathya Sai Baba advocated for a vegetarian diet and moderation in food habits. He explained that food impacts the mind and body, with excessive or impure food harming health. He warned against meat, alcohol, and overeating, stating:

“The type of food you consume decides the degree of concentration and self-control.”

He emphasized “sattvic” food—simple, pure, and wholesome—to maintain balance.

3. Purity of Food Sources:

He stressed that food should be obtained through honest means and handled by people with good intentions. Praying before meals (e.g., “Brahman par nam”) was recommended to purify food and mind.

4. Physical Health and Duty:

While acknowledging the importance of physical health, he advised against obsessing over it. Instead, he encouraged focusing on duties with peace:

“Do not bestow undue attention on your health; discharge your duties peacefully, then everything will be all right.”

5. Spiritual Unity and Brotherhood:

Health, in his view, extends beyond the individual. He linked societal harmony to collective well-being, stating:

“Unity is most essential for man. Unity leads to purity, which in turn leads to divinity.”

In summary, Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings on health combine mental discipline, mindful eating, spiritual practices, and a focus on selfless service as pathways to holistic well-being .
